Ohanami
April 29, 2010

Japanese people adore cherry blossoms,
so many many cherry blossom trees were planted all over Japan.
Every spring, when cherry blossoms are about to bloom, weather reports
update everyone on "the front line of cherry
blossoms". This time of year, we quite often have rain and
strong wind together. We all worried that all the blossoms may
be blown off by this mean weather. To have a picnic or party
under full bloomed cherry blossom trees is a "must" event
for us. This event is called "ohanami". We bring
food and drink, and enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms with friends and
family. This year, I enthusiastically made oinarisan (rice in a
sweet bean packet). They came out very tasty! I believe they
were even tastier than the ones specialty shops make. I
had ohanami with my family, which is increasing in number, at
Senbonzakura where we visit every year. Senbonzakura means 1,000
cherry blossom trees, I don't think this place quite has 1,000 trees,
but the numerous full blooming cherry blossoms along the river is
gorgeous every year.
